The Diocese of Green Bay had been through several strategic planning programs, but found a lack of buy in and ability to implement. Under the direction of Bishop Ricken, the diocese achieved the goal to have more than a plan, but a vision that can operationalize the mission of schools, making every school a vibrant Catholic school of discipleship. Called “Disciples on the Way”, the diocese made necessary structural changes, put resources behind the plan, and used the plan as a case element in a major capital campaign. The plan addressed the unique challenges of large and complex school systems as well as the needs of local parish schools, bringing alignment of vision, clearer working relationships, raised expectations and accountability, and proposing how funding could transform into a more viable model. Enrollment has increased the first year turning around past trends.
